Metal buildings are frequently being re-covered with single ply roof systems.? Wind-uplift resistance of these retrofit single-ply roof systems is of primary concern and is directly related to fastener types, schedules, and spacing.? Industry concerns will be presented and guidelines for attachment when recovering with membrane systems will be provided. What E1592 testing was performed on multiple test roofs consisting of mechanically attached TPO with different fastening patterns over flat stock and flute fill polyiso over structural metal panels. This session will be presented at all levels.
1. Review and classify current industry practices for retrofit single ply roofs.
2. Understand the metal roofing industry’s concerns when recovering with single ply membranes.?
3. Identify the structural concerns of the existing metal roof when changing the uplift load path.?
4. Define fastener spacing guidelines based on calculated loads and pullout values for a typical reroofing scenario.
