Currently 1 in 68 children are diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). This is an estmated 1 to 1.2 million people under the age of 21 diagnosed with ASD in the US. Patients with ASD will pose unique challenges in the dental setting as there are often difficulties with communication, sensory processing and social interaction. But if you can 'get into their world', the results can be gratifying and satisfying to dental team. This course will review the current diagnosis of ASD and offer some strategies for helping these patients have treatment in a dental setting. ?
