Roofing represents on average 30% of the heat loss in a building, depending on building size and roof area. Designing the mechanical systems of such a building by using an inaccurate roof thermal performance could lead to an improper choice of systems, compromising their durability, increasing maintenance needs or their energy consumption and reducing comfort of the users of in the building. ?
1. Determine the effect that the roof can have on the heat loss of the building and the?
mechanical systems.?
2. Determine how individual components impact the effective thermal performance of the?
roof system and how it differs from the nominal or design R-value.?
3. Identify the effect that dimensional changes of roof boards can have on thermal?
performance as well as durability of the roof and how to mitigate the effects of gapping.?
4. Evaluate design roof systems that deal with temperature dependent thermal conductivity?
and aging to design a system that performs for the life of the building.
