Prescription writing privileges are one of the most powerful therapeutic tools we have as dentists. Proper implementation of prescription writing skills will not only keep you compliant with the myriad of rules and regulations but will, at the same time, lead to improved patient satisfaction, referrals, and improved office productivity. In this course, attendees will learn how to properly select opioid and non-opioid analgesics and make better prescribing decisions. A review of basic analgesic pharmacology is presented so that attendees are familiar with the various mechanisms of action, as well as the principles of analgesic dosing. Common analgesic side effects, adverse reactions, drug-drug interactions, and contraindications will also be reviewed.
