Too often the genomic discussion focuses on “disease risk genes”. Much more common in a person’s genome, however are genes that impart resilience to disease. This presentation will describe the concept of resilience genes and what factors result in their expression. From this model, a description of healthy aging at the cellular level will be provided with specific emphasis on the personalized approach to lifestyle healthcare.Learning Objectives:
- What are “disease risk” genes?
- What are “resilience genes?
- How do genetic characteristics translate to wellness?
- What environment, lifestyle and dietary factors modify gene expression?
- How does this model provide for the development of a personalized, scientifically formulated wellness plan?
