Replacement of infant protection systems in existing hospital facilities is a challenging endeavor. The Life Safety Code includes specific provisions for providing the ability to lock doors; existing hospital configurations are not always conducive to application of locked doors. Ideally, changing the infant protection system will be coordinated with an overall renovation, but that does not always happen. This presentation will discuss the lessons learned and the necessity for involving various design professionals to ensure compliance.
