Recently several fires and structural collapses in Bangladesh garment factories have resulted in the deaths of thousands of workers. NFPA and the Alliance for Bangladesh Worker Safety have partnered to develop strategies to implement best practices for improving fire safety conditions throughout the country. The challenges of working in a developing nation with extremely limited resources can be daunting. This presentation will focus on the work of the Alliance to define the risk, establish a performance standard, perform inspections and train employees, all with the goal of instilling a culture of safety in this important industry. NFPA?s vision for promoting fire safety in developing nations will also be discussed.
