The Flagstaff Watershed Protection Project (FWPP) is the culmination of almost two decades of progressive, comprehensive municipal wildland fire management, resulting in a gradual and profound paradigm shift within the community. In November 2012, voters authorized a $10 million municipal bond with a 73.6% approval rate to fund forest treatments in two critical watersheds on another jurisdiction, outside of the city's corporate limits. The election demonstrated community understanding of the vulnerability of these two watersheds and a commitment to act rather than wait for the inevitable fire.
