Biofeedback and hypnosis have distinctly different histories and yet share substantial common ground as pillars of self-regulation. Applied to the experience of pain, each modality permits a clinician to address both the source of perceived pain and the perception of pain itself.
This workshop will briefly review some of the data supporting the use of biofeedback and hypnosis for pain management and discuss the theory, neurophysiology and psychophysiology underlying the use of these approaches. The majority of the workshop will be reserved for hands-on demonstrations of inductions, suggestions and biofeedback procedures directly related to clinical pain management skills.
