Damage to roof covers and subsequent interior damage and losses continue to be a major contributor to storm related losses and displacement of home and building owners. IBHS developed guidance on mitigation measures have been integrated that into its FORTIFIED suite of programs that are being embraced by the insurance industry. Post storm damage assessments clearly show that the real-world performance of wind rated shingles is not matching the wind speed ratings. IBHS research on wind loading and aging of asphalt shingles will be discussed.
