Presenter: Joseph Tramonana, PhD & Mitch Smith, MSW, LCSW
This workshop is for therapists already using hypnosis for performance enhancement and/or those who use hypnosis and want to expand into this arena.
Mitch Smith, LCSW, who has been a frequent ASCH faculty member in sports hypnosis, and Joseph Tramontana, PhD, who recently published Sports Hypnosis in Practice: Scripts, Strategies, and Case Examples will share with participants their experiences and techniques in working with athletes. They have also used similar techniques with students for improving study habits and exam taking, as well as other performance areas such as ballet, dance, public speaking, and a wide range of behaviors in which achieving peak performance is the goal. Working through performance anxiety will also be addressed. Discussion of recovery from injury and returning to sport, as well as substance abuse in athletes will also be covered. The workshop will include demonstrations and experiential practice by participants as time allows. Participants will learn strategies and how to use, modify, and develop new scripts for their clients.
During and at the conclusion of this session, the attendee will be able to:
-> Differentiate and articulate how to develop scripts or adapt existing scripts for use with clients seeking performance enhancement;
-> Develop skills that enable them to expand their practices into working with more clients who are seeking performance enhancement rather than standard mental health concerns;
-> Formulate methods to expand their practice into the performance enhancement arena; and
-> Develop methods for marketing themselves in sports psychology/sports hypnosis as well as performance enhancement in other life areas.
