In this lecture the basic pathophysiology of the parathyroid glands and PTH will be reviewed. Adequate awareness and early detection can save your patient’s life. The effect on inflammation, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, and neurologic systems will be reviewed. Treatments from traditional and surgical management, to lifestyle, diet will be presented with current scientific references to support these protocols. An algorithm based management model will be presented. At the conclusion of this course, it is hoped that a better understanding of an often missed diagnosis will improve patient outcomes in the future.
