Description:
People are living longer and innovative treatments are becoming necessary for our patients to sustain their oral health. Older patients often take a plethora of prescription medications and suffer from the side effects of dry mouth. As manual dexterity decreases and the need for better oral hygiene increases it may become more difficult to help these patients maintain their teeth. Unique and innovative materials must be employed to meet their restorative needs. Older adult patients often want esthetic treatment but may not be able to sit for extended intervals in the chair. This course will teach you how to quickly place tooth-colored restorations which resist recurrent decay. You will also discover alternative methods to prevent smooth surface decay and develop at-home regiments to help your patients. This course will introduce you to methods that will allow teeth to last for a lifetime.
Learning objectives:
Participants will be able to:
Identify drugs that may cause dry mouth
Select appropriate restorative materials for use in the aged population
Understand the concept of remineralization/demineralization
Develop at-home protocols to improve oral health
Become acquainted with the concepts of CAMBRA
