Today's preventative dentistry and the cutting edge of modern restorative dentistry are focused on an ever-increasing exactness in our restorative techniques as well as a deeper understanding of the very nature of dental disease. The microbial biofilm model has dramatically shifted our approach in both prevention and restoration of the human dentition. With the advent of high magnification and non-rotary tooth preparation techniques, the dentition can be restored with minimal intervention thus preserving the strength and integrity of the teeth. This course will fully describe the new understanding of the microbial biofilm. Attendees will learn how to assign risk categories to each patient and how to apply the appropriate protocols for both the prevention of disease and the restoration of the damage. Attendees will be witness to video presentations of patient treatments as well as live demonstrations in the front of the room using the microscope and the air abrasion unit. The course will describe and demonstrate the advantages of inlay and onlay restorations for even the most compromised dentition. This program will also describe the science behind and the protocols on how to render the patient with a 90% resistance to decay.
