Description:
Lasers are an exciting new addition to the dental armamentarium and are increasingly being used for and applied to various dental procedures by general dentists, periodontists, and other specialists. When used appropriately, lasers offer certain advantages over a conventional armamentarium. Peri-implantitis is defined as an inflammatory reaction with the loss of supporting bone in the tissues surrounding a functioning implant. LAPIP, Laser Assisted Peri-Implantitis Procedure, is a modification of the well-defined LANAP protocol to effectively treat the unique challenges of peri-implantitis. This lecture will demonstrate through clinical results that it is possible to eliminate the inflammatory reaction in peri-implantitis, therefore allowing healthy tissue to regenerate and show consistent, positive results in the regeneration of supporting tissue and bone.
Learning objectives:
Participants will be able to:
List the advantages and disadvantages of laser use
Understand how it works—why the laser is effective in reversing periodontitis and peri-implantitis
Discuss the LANAP and LAPIP protocols
