The 2011 edition of NFPA 418: Standard for Heliports now incorporates, by reference, aeronautical and safety portions of the FAA Heliport Design guidelines. This session will explain the FAA terminology and basic heliport design criteria. PowerPoint and video will be used to further the discussion on general design elements of heliports and will include examples of various types and sizes of heliports. A review of common hazards found at heliports will be presented, as will a discussion on normal and emergency operations.
Mr. Alexander is currently the Regional Operations Manager for the Central United States for Omniflight Helicopters Inc. and has worked in multiple capacities within Omniflight over the past 16 years to include; pilot, safety manager and base manager. Mr. Alexander serves on the board of directors for the National EMS Pilots Association and is currently the President Elect set to assume the position of President October 2010. He has also served in the capacity as the President of the Indiana Association of Air Medical Services (INAAMS) for five years.
Raymond A. Syms An aviation professional with over 40 years of aviation experience, over 30 years as an aeronautical consultant dealing with heliport development and litigation support. Designed over 400 heliports Worldwide and inventoried and inspected over 4,000 facilities.He has served on the HAI heliport and FAA/Industry heliport/vertiport design A/C working group for over 20 years. He is also one of the most senior members and current Chair of NFPA 418 Standards for heliports. Full information is available at raysyms.com
