In a medical practice setting, patient access is defined as a measure viewed through the eyes of patients, their families, payers, referring providers, employers, and other community constituents. As a Healthy People 2020 initiative and a key growth strategy for consumer-oriented health systems, access to care is no longer seen as a traditional asset, but a top priority for meeting consumer preferences. To effectively measure performance in this area, an organization must have the technical infrastructure to measure across the ecosystem. Aligning the practice management support system with the electronic health record will enhance the patient journey through inpatient, ancillary, and outpatient settings, and help control costs while gaining efficiencies for physicians, clinicians, and employees. This session?s presenters will outline an approach to sustain ?Access to Care? (measured by CGCAHPS) as a key outcome measure when implementing a new practice management support system across nearly 200 medical practice locations.
