To demonstrate the value that a strong nursing organization provides to the health care enterprise, nurse leaders and researchers have invested in the development and use of nursing-specific measures and data sets that prove the unique and important contributions nurses made to quality patient care in the inpatient setting. As the demand for outpatient care continues to grow, the need to support nurses and nursing leadership in their essential roles in this setting has never been more critical. In this session, nursing-sensitive indicator experts Dr. Susan Shapiro, CALNOC board member, and Dr. Mary Foley, CALNOC board member, Director, Center for Research and Innovation in Patient Care at the UCSF School of Nursing, will share the evolution of nursing-sensitive indicator development; the structure, process and outcomes measurement framework and quality measurement theory; and applying this framework to the next generation efforts to measure the value of nursing?s contribution to care across the continuum.
