Throughput metrics in emergency departments (ED) are receiving increased attention as performance indicators. In this session, presenters will discuss how Virtua Voorhees hospital introduced the split-flow model to eliminate steps in the triage process by designating patients according to their level of priority. Lower-level priority patients are treated in the Joint Evaluation and Treatment area (JET) by a team of clinicians, leaving beds open for patients who are determined to be of a higher-level priority. Attendees will learn how this process has resulted in improved throughput times and patient satisfaction scores.
