Session I. SUGAR ADDICTION: DEFEATING THE GREATEST DIETARY CRISIS OF ALL TIME
Sugar-linked degenerative disease now kills 35 million people a year worldwide. In addition to the new research exposing its toxicity, sugar is now known to be four times more addictive than cocaine because of its potent impact on the brain's appetite chemistry. This workshop will focus on the nutritional strategies that can stop sugar cravings in 24 hours in over 80% of overeaters of all ages.
Session II. THE NATURAL PRESCRIPTION FOR DEPRESSION: ANXIETY AND HOW TO AVOID OR WITHDRAW FROM ANTIDEPRESSANT DRUGS
Stress, primarily the stress of the current American diet and the brain malnutrition that results from it, have created unprecedented havoc in the emotional lives of at least half of the teens and adults in the USA. The risky drugs designed to assist those afflicted are being taken en masse (at exorbitant prices in the US only.) Yet the nutritional alternatives are more effective, have no side effects, and can permanently repair the neurotransmitter depletions that cause the problems.
Session III. INSOMNIA: THE IMPACT AND CURE OF A 21ST CENTURY EPIDEMIC
Many American adults and children get less than 8 hours of sleep per night. Sleep medication use has increased 50% in the past four years and takers of these meds have a four-fold increased death rate because insomnia is linked to all of the major physical and mental health challenges of our time. Fortunately, we have the nutritional solutions to the three most common causes of sleep deprivation.
Julia Ross, MA, is a pioneer in the field of nutrition as it impacts mood, appetite, behavior, and addiction. A licensed psychotherapist, she has founded and directed seven treatment programs in the San Francisco Bay Area since 1980. She is the author of The Diet Cure, a holistic guide for recovery from sugar and other food addictions (40% revised edition out May 2, 2012) and The Mood Cure, a neuronutrient repair manual for depression, anxiety, insomnia, and addiction.
The Diet Cure was chosen for Amazon’s Tremendous Ten List of Health Mind and Body books. The Mood Cure was a finalist for the Books for a Better Life Award and Ross is now the Executive Director of The Recovery Systems Clinic in Mill Valley, California, where her innovative team of psychotherapists, nutritionists, and holistic physicians have developed an integrative treatment model emphasizing nutrient therapy and biochemical rebalancing.
Ross has taught at several Bay Area universities, and has presented at hundreds of professional and public conferences internationally. She now also provides advanced training and certification for health practitioners. (dietcure.com and moodcure.com, practitioners/resources.)
Julia’s work has been featured on radio and television and in such diverse publications as the Journal of Molecular Psychiatry and Vogue Magazine. An NBC special on her work with depression was aired nationally in 2006.
