With the mobility of Hungarian Jews, there is almost no Hungarian Jewish family that does not have an ancestral branch originating in the Felvid?k (Upper Area) of Hungary that is now part of the independent state of Slovakia. It was a general pattern for many of the mishpoche?s living in this area to move closer and closer to bigger towns and finally ending up in Budapest, the capitol or leaving for a better life in the US. Having said that, there is a wealth of information available at the National Archives and branch archives and registry offices not generally known to the public. Censuses, vital records not scanned by LDS, civil vital records, residential lists created at various dates in the XIX and XX Centuries. In this presentation, we are going to cover some Slovak geography, information about archives and types of records available at these repositories.
