Landsmanshaftn (plural of ?landsmanshaft?), were ?social benefit societies? formed by immigrants from a common ancestral location. They provided members and their families mutual aid and raised funds for the needy back home. Landsmanhaftn flourished wherever immigrants were found, especially in North America and Israel. Records of some have been preserved. Following the ?paper trail? one may learn about an ancestor and discover a lost or unknown branch of a family tree.
This session will acquaint the researcher with landsmanshaftn and their activities, explore avenues of research and demonstrate how to exploit records for genealogical success.
