Virtual Shtetl is one of the most important projects of POLIN Museum of the History of Polish Jews. It provides information on the Jewish history of small towns, as well as big cities in Eastern Europe, covering the territory of pre-war Poland. Virtual Shtetl enables Jews from all over the world to research their ancestry which often stems from the area of former Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The portal was established in 2008 and is currently undergoing the process of revitalisation, with new tools, databases, and many other functions being employed. The launch of Virtual Shtetl's new version is planned for July 2017.
