Family stories in a shoe box. Those photos that attracted my attention were always there since early childhood. I took them for granted. I never asked questions. Somehow I felt that talking about them was like entering a mine field. When starting my genealogy tour, my curiosity led me to investigate those photos. Some were very old from about 1900 and others had crumpled corners. How did they reach the box? Who are those mute people that are looking at me? Are they relatives? Are they friends? Some pictures, no doubt were taken in Latvia, other in the US. I started my long and fascinating trip and could never imagine the surprising results considering that most of my relatives perished in the Holocaust.
