The goal of this presentation is to show different ways of searching the family roots. ZAGS is a valuable center of information about our ancestors. There are many ZAGSs that still keep the documents from the previous centuries though they must keep the documents for 75 years and then transfer them to the regional archives. However, there are many pitfalls on your way in the work with this office. If you haven't got any positive answer to your request in ZAGS, there is one more source worth consulting. They are departmental archives. If you are lucky and know the workplace of at least one of your relatives, go there without any hesitation. There is a list of the documents which according to the Circular letter from 1853 must be kept forever.
