Presenter: Stanley Diamond, Jewish Records Indexing - Poland
Since its 1995 founding, there have been two phases of activity for Jewish Records Indexing - Poland, starting with creating indices of records microfilmed by the LDS and then indexing of later years of records in Polish Archives not filmed by the LDS. Phase 3 - introduced one year ago - was made possible by changes in Polish archival policies and privacy laws. Phase 3 is made possible by: 1) availability of digital record images records - facilitating full extraction of vital records, and the linking of search results to digital images; 2) Polish privacy law allowing access to marriage and death records up to 1935 in Civil Records Offices (USCs). The session will reveal the results of the first year of Phase 3, and will introduce forthcoming major additions to JRI-Poland and show how the "Your Town" pages will be modified to include a much broader range of record sources.
