This presentation will provide an overview of resources for Jewish family research in Romania including the National Archives and its branches, county and municipal archives and Jewish community records. The talk will provide details about records from formerly Hungarian areas as well as Moldova and other regions of present day Romania such as: --identification of available collections? including Jewish and civil registers, administrative collection books, census records, citizen lists, and other sources of documentation; --description of Jewish records including the years covered, languages, format and organization, key differences between Transylvanian and Moldavian records; and --rules and procedures for accessing and photographing records in Romanian archives.The talk will be illustrated with examples of registers and other documents that may be encountered.
