Ten years after the opening online in 2004, the Shoah victims' names database at Yad Vashem is to be expanded and enhanced with the addition of a massive number of additional names records relevant to Jews documented in the context of the Shoah. These will include data on different groups of Shoah victims, beyond the current scope of what is posted now online by Yad Vashem. Different aspects of this development will be discussed, with pros and cons, from different perspectives, weighting privacy concerns against free access to information. And the expected result: will it be a mere expansion or a change in the perception of the names database? Since this should be a "surprise" for genealogists, I will kindly ask you not to give publicity to this topic (if accepted…) until the posting of the final program. Thank you.
