Inflammation is at the center of virtually all complex chronic disease processes but may NOT be the ROOT cause of disease. This lecture reviews the scientific literature connecting foods, inflammation, and complex chronic disease giving the listener compelling evidence that inflammation, although a central actor in most degenerative disease processes, may not be the root cause of the disease. Gluten syndromes, innate and acquired immune reactions to food, and the association between chronic inflammation and chronic disease are reviewed. Finally, very recent scientific literature substantiating what may be the ROOT cause of disease is used to lay out a simple clinical pathway to improve patient outcomes.
