It takes more than just selecting a good shingle product to ensure good roof performance. Successful performance is achieved by having good design, quality materials, proper installation, and regular maintenance. This presentation will go over these “Four Tenets” of roof performance as it relates to asphalt shingle roof systems. This session will be presented at a beginner/intermediate level.

? Describe what makes a good design, such as appropriate details and proper attic ventilation.

? Identify what makes a quality product. Discussion points include criteria for material and testing

standards for fire- and wind-resistance, durability, and water-shedding capability; and selecting different products for different slopes.

? Recognize the importance of regular maintenance which includes cleaning and maintaining the roof after initial installation.

? Identify useful resources, such as guides, videos and online tools.
