Contractors have consistently looked for safer and faster ways to conduct roof inspections.? With unmanned aerial system (UAS) technology rising to the top of current technology innovations, roofing contractors are asking, “How can this help my business?”? This session explores the history, current status and future possibilities surrounding the rise in the utilization of drones for property and roof inspections. This session will share recent developments and plans from the FAA, NOAA and FEMA.? Attendees will learn about the technology behind the unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and get a glimpse into the technology behind a successful unmanned aerial system , including remote sensing, camera applications, the subsequent processing of images and how those images can be incorporated into current inspections, estimating and production workflows. This presentation is 50% commercial and 50% residential and is presented at an beginner to intermediate level.

1. Identify the different unmanned aerial system (UAS) platforms, the technology behind them and the importance of remote sensing technology and high-resolution imagery
2. Become aware of the government? regulations in place and the positions as related to unmanned aerial system (UAS).
3. Identify how unmanned aerial system (UAS) and remote sensing can be incorporated into a roofing contractor’s current workflows
