With the increasing application of all-ceramic and implant-supported restorations, occlusion has - once again - taken on an added level of importance. Unfortunately, there seems to be more and more confusion and controversy regarding this subject. We will address all the major topics of occlusion as they relate to everyday dentistry. With aesthetic corrections driving our patients treatment desires, we will learn how to make these aesthetic changes while developing a sound occlusal treatment plan. Part 1 will review the examination and function of a healthy stomatognathic system, as well as pathofunction. We also will go into detail on the five common theories of occlusion and all aspects of the worn dentition.
