As the American population ages and becomes more health conscious, the numbers of fully or partially dentate patients is on the rise. Additionally, patients are increasingly concerned about the appearance of youthfulness and with this is a heightened demand for esthetic smiles. The integration of surgical periodontics to enhance or repair the gingival architecture has played a fundamental role in the achievement of the esthetic smile. Periodontal plastic surgery is an important component of this periodontal therapy. Dr. Oxford will discuss the crucial attachment apparatus of gingival tissues to teeth, the etiology of recession type defects and explore the methods of treatment. He also will discuss smile enhancement procedures available using esthetic crown lengthening and other compromises that can enhance a patient?s satisfaction with their smiles and teeth.
