The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) recently published a complex set of Disaster Management requirements in which nursing facilities must more effectively prepare, manage, and train staff for any number of possible disasters. This session will present the latest CMS requirements and discuss the Nursing Home Incident Command System (NHICS). CMS will expect nursing facilities to have an effective All-Hazard approach to disaster response and NHICS meets this requirement; it serves as an effective management tool to help nursing homes assign staff for key emergency management duties and designate needed equipment and supplies to carry out assigned duties.
