Stricter energy codes are adding more potential fuel load to exterior walls of buildings. New exterior cladding and weather-barrier systems are coming onto the market almost daily. The need for effective fire-safety standards and reliable test results has become greater than ever. This panel--which will include an architect and fire protection, fire testing, and wall cladding applications engineers--will discuss NFPA 285 and its effect on building design and construction. The importance of this test in tall and super-tall buildings and the continuing need for the test will be highlighted and case studies illustrating how the fire-safety and testing industries work with building product manufacturers and the building design community will be provided.
