Most people do not realize it, but NFPA has been developing standards related to wildland fire protection since the early 1900s. This session will examine the history of NFPA standards development related to fire protection in the wildland/urban interface (WUI). We will identify the origins of NFPA's current suite of WUI standards, discuss the reorganization of the committee(s) responsible for those standards, and discuss the future expansion of standards development in the WUI.
