In November 2013, the Fire Protection Research Foundation brought together leaders from within and outside the fire protection community to explore emerging societal and building trends and their interface with fire safety. This presentation will review the topics addressed, including "The Changing Urban Landscape"; "SMART Buildings: how sensor and information technologies are transforming the built environment"; "The Changing Materials Landscape: Emerging Trends in Green Buildings"; and "The Changing Nature of Building Contents. Also presented will be a perspective on how these issues will affect fire and electrical safety and NFPA codes and standards.
