The Federal Aviation Administration has 550 Part 139-certified airports and estimates 7,000 aircraft are in the air over the United States at any given time. ARFF personnel respond to emergencies at these airports, translating to life-saving emergency response outcomes. Dallas/Ft. Worth Fire Training Research Center (DFW FTRC) developed software for use in its virtual lab to complement traditional training. The software enables students to familiarize themselves with the features of aircraft and airports, thus embedding knowledge virtually. Embry-Riddle University and DFW FTRC partnered to evaluate the value of this technology to the ARFF learning experience. This session discusses some of the virtual lab capabilities and research data summarizing student experiences with the software.
