The entertainment industry's need for quick set ups and short durations results in portable power distribution systems significantly different from permanent installations. NFPA 70, National Electrical Code, addresses entertainment industry portable power distribution systems in Articles 520, 525, and 530, but there is a great deal of confusion on the content of those articles. This session will examine the use of portable power distribution systems, how they differ from permanent installations, safe practices promoted by the IATSE and used throughout the entertainment industry, and how they are addressed by NFPA 70.
