When discussing the safety of fire fighters and their work environment, it is important to establish the true work environment. The fire station is merely the staging area--the locations we respond to are our true work environment. To positively impact this work environment, the fire fighter must be involved in the process that establishes how it will be designed, built, and maintained: the code development process. This session will examine specific incidents and issues where fire service involvement has made a positive impact through code changes or has protected the work environment by preventing proposed changes.
