The basic method for controlling building fires by fire departments is through the use of water, typically applied with manual hose lines or water monitors. The water requirements for fire fighting include the rate of flow, the residual pressure required at that flow, and the total quantity required. This session will present and assess the appropriateness of 16 methods that have been identified for calculating required water flow rates for sprinklered and non-sprinklered properties.
