New and undamaged NM (nonmetallic) cable has very high breakdown voltage of more than 10KV, and it is unlikely that a voltage surge in the residential electrical distribution system may generate electrical arc through NM cable insulation. But a test and experiment have shown that the damaged NM cable has much lower breakdown voltage, and voltage surge in the residential electrical distribution system may arc through the damaged NM cable. This session discusses the voltage surge test for damaged NM cable and data analysis results.
