:
This session will explore the common misconceptions parents have about fire setting behavior and help the interventionist understand how to overcome these during an educational intervention. Parents and caregivers are a critical element in the chain of intervention and this course will provide understanding and skills to improve intervention practices.
Don Porth
began work with the fire service in 1980 as a volunteer before becoming a paid firefighter in 1983. Hired by Portland Fire & Rescue in 1984, he served in the fire suppression ranks before moving into fire prevention. He managed the youth firesetting intervention program and later was promoted to Director of Public Education, directing Portland's public educators until 2004. Don now oversees Safety Learning Center & Fire Museum of Portland Fire & Rescue.
