The traditional mandibular nerve block (IANB) has a relatively low success rate. Newer techniques, such as; the Gow-Gates mandibular NB, Akinosi-Vazirani closed mouth mandibular NB, intraosseous anesthesia, periodontal ligament injection (PDL), and intraseptal techniques have been developed to improve success in the mandible. Articaine has significant success administered by mandibular infiltration in adults, while buffered local anesthetics have both an faster rate of onset as well as increased depth. The instructor will review these techniques. So, is the mandibular block dead? Come and see.
