Temporization of dental implants in the esthetic zone has become almost routine due to all the advances in osseointegration, implant restorative procedures, and the expectations from patients to have a tooth replaced the same day. We have all heard about how temporization techniques can be used, among other things, to contour tissue and maintain or generate interdental papillae. However, the circumstances of an extraction with immediate implant placement are sometimes unpredictable even after thorough planning prior to the intervention. This means that the restorative dentist must have a complete understanding of all options available and all the armamentarium necessary for immediate temporization as well as a complete understanding on how to utilize each available option as an adjuvant for tissue contouring and papillae maintenance.
