Joel Epstein, DMD is a professor in oral medicine and diagnostic sciences in the department of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery at the University of Illinois. |
As cancer survivorship increases, the impact of chronic oral and dental symptoms and conditions has increased. Prevention and management of oral complications are required from diagnosis to survivorship. The impact of acute oral problems in cancer patients is generally well identified. Late oral changes affect function, symptoms, and overall health and are under recognized. This course will review selected late effects of cancer therapy with a focus on patients with head-and-neck cancer and stem cell transplantation.
Learning Objectives:
- Identify the oral impact of cancer therapy
- Support diagnosis and management of the oral/dental complications
- Provide guidance for oral and dental care in patients with prior cancer therapy
- Promote appropriate oral care as part of the multidisciplinary team
