This workshop will afford the attendee an exposure to an experimental research study using hypnosis in an outpatient oral surgery practice. The workshop will focus on the development of a simple research design, implementation of the design, and presentation and publication of the result.

At the conclusion of this session, participants should be able to…

Understand how propofol works and two ways hypnotic suggestion in
concert with intravenous sedation can reduce the amount of intraoperative propofol
used and decrease post operative patient discomfort;

Integrated hypnosis/suggestion into the practice of anesthesia; and

Explain two ways a simple true experimental research design can be implemented and
followed to publication.
