As the recent past recedes into history, appreciation for the sites associated with
social movements, watershed events, and cultural trends of the last 50 years is
growing. Case studies will look at efforts to identify and preserve sites significant
primarily for their historic rather than architectural value, including sitesassociated with the gay rights and labor movements, as well as architectural
works outside the traditional design canon that reflect 20th-century history.
