Hurricane Katrina, and recent tornados, floods, and wildfires all sound a wake-up
call: Communities need to include historic properties in their disaster mitigation
planning before trouble strikes. Using the post-Katrina experience of New Orleans
as a backdrop, this session will present pre-disaster mitigation projects for historic
properties around the country, and specifically highlight a pioneering effort to
incorporate historic properties into the City of Tulsa’s Hazard Mitigation Plan.
